Job Description 

Job Title: Cook - PRN

Status: Non-Exempt; Union 

Reports to: ECE Administrator

Date: 6/16; 12/16 

Basic Function: 

Under supervision, as needed coordinate and implement food preparation and kitchen services and activities. Order food and supplies, prepare related documentation, monitor and evaluate provided services. 

Responsibilities: 

· Under direction ensure that the activities of this program and relevant programs are consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Merrick House. 

· Adhere to the menu that is put in place. Any meal changes must be preapproved by the ECE director and documented on the appropriate menu change form. 

· Prepare meals and snacks for children in early childhood education program and other programs as requested. 

· Discard any unused food that has been prepared at the end of all meal service. 

· Deliver and retrieve food from the classrooms for all age groups. 

· Prepare food for field trips and classroom food experiences. 

· Ensure food substitutions are available for children with food allergies or special menus. 

· Plan weekly menus and submit to ECE Director for review and approval. 

· Maintain an accurate inventory of food supplies submit to ECE Director the last Monday of each month. 

· Submit food receipts/invoices to the ECE Director or designated representative as appropriate. 

· Oversee kitchen, food storage and lunchroom areas as to cleanliness and sanitation, including all food preparation equipment, refrigerators, freezers, cupboards etc. 

· Ensure that the kitchen is swept and mopped daily. 

· Clean out the refrigerator and freezer weekly discard bad and unused food. 

· Perform a monthly and annual inventory on food and supplies 

· Prepare special menu food items for meetings as needed. 

· Meet weekly or as scheduled with supervisor. 

· Attend all meetings and trainings as directed. 

· Perform other duties as assigned or directed. 

Requirements: 

· Combination of education and experience normally represented by a High School Diploma or equivalent and one to three years related professional experience. 

· Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hire if driving is warranted. 

· Must obtain Safe Serve Certification within six (6) months of hire. 

· Experience in food handling and preparation, kitchen management, and menu planning. Knowledge of recognized methods and skills in provision of good nutrition desired. 

· TB test and medical statement required 

· Ability to monitor allocated food budget. 

· Must be able to actively interact with preschool children by having good dexterity with ability to lift up to 60 pounds, push, pull, carry, climb, balance and kneel and the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and squat. 

· Must have good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. 

· Must be able to form good working and therapeutic relationships. 

· Good working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software preferred. 

· Final applicant is required to be fingerprinted to complete background check.
